YULETIDE! YULETIDE! YULETIDE!!!
I'm having the same trouble I have every year - where to start!?! I can never decide if I should start at the beginning or end and just read every fandom I'm somewhat familiar with, or if I should skim over all the fandom list and read only the fandoms I most care about first, or if I should just roll around like a pig in mud reading random things all over the place! :D
BUT I COME WITH A REC!!!!!
If you've read Vikram Seth's A Suitable Boy (and if you haven't, why not???) then you need to read this fic here:
ANY GIVEN DREAM
It is perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Aside from not being 40 pages longer, I mean. ;) Read and be delighted!

10:03 pm - Fic: The Difference Between: Master Post
|
Title: The Difference Between Written By: Rhiannonhero Rating: Extremely Adult Summary: Part One - Noah is his father's son. Parts Two through Nine - Luke takes back what rightfully belongs to him. (Hurt/Comfort) Warnings: Part One - Rape, Torture Parts Two through Nine - References to Rape, Torture, and descriptions of PTSD Author's Notes:
This fic is written for supergrover24 to fulfill the story she won for the Help Japan auction. The story has been a very interactive endeavor and I hope that she has found the work on it fulfilling and enjoyable. I started this story in May, and after a lot of work, editing, research, etc, I'm pleased to finally be able to bring it to you.
This story contains a lot of hurt/comfort. Hopefully there is plenty of comfort for the hurt. Advice for the wary - if you are not able to read Part One due to the descriptions therein, you might be able to read the other parts of the story. One of my beta readers was able to do Parts Two through Nine, but never read Part One. The rest of the story stands alone but does remain triggery. Proceed with caution.
Thank you in advance for reading! I truly appreciate it! Thank you to _alicesprings for being awesome as always, and sticking it out with me! You're fantastic! Thank you to peggin for her always excellent help and input! Thank you to amelialourdes for her wonderful comments and support! Thank you to Jed for reading this crazy ass thing and being super supportive as always! You're my best girl!
And thank you to supergrover24 for winning me in the auction and providing such a challenging prompt! I had so much fun writing this story 'with you', and it gave me a lot of happiness and joy to interact with you so closely on it. There are a lot of good memories for me in the writing of this! Also, I've learned a lot with this story and there were several things that pushed me as a writer in unexpected ways. Thank you for everything! <3

10:01 pm - Nothing's Real Until You Let Go Completely
|
It's been a long time since I cried when I finished posting a story. I think the last time was way back in the day when I finished The Orbiting Series in Smallville fandom. (Do not go looking for that unless you want to see what a terrible writer I used to be! Oy! I leave it up because some of you crazy folks still like it for sentimental reasons or something, I guess. ;) ) That time, I think the tears were because I spent like three years working on that series. In the end, I doubt it even adds up to as many pages at the story I just posted. I wrote a lot less and a lot more slowly back then, despite having all the time in the world. There's nothing like deadlines and kiddos to get you focused and make you choose what's important to you.
This time, though, I think it's just that a whole lot of things got brought up for me with this story. This story was a pretty emotional story for me to write. I remember telling Jodie at one point during the process that it was triggering some delayed grief for my grandmother in the writing of it. I still think I didn't really get to process her loss the way I would have before I had a kid. I mean, it was a healthy loss, I think. I miss her, but I'm not heartbroken that she's gone. My days go on as usual. I think of her fondly and occasionally cry a few tears for her. But, working through this story, I found that inside myself there was a well of sadness for her loss that I'd not really dealt with. You just can't when you've got a grieving child on your hands.
There are things in this story that are not my cuppa, but I worked really hard to find a way into those scenes. I read a lot of forums and boards where such activities were discussed. I watched a lot of porn that I wouldn't have watched normally. I struggled with my brain to find a way to pop a hole into that box that held things that were not 'for me' and then squeeze in there, and pull it out to shape into something I could write and that fit the characters and their situation. It was a good stretch for my mind, at least that's how I thought of it, and I still think of it, but there was something interesting in trying to find that in me, you know? It's hard to explain, but it was like an excavation and I think I brought something to the surface that I still haven't fully grasped. (And it's not the kinks themselves. It's something they symbolize in me.)
Basically, this story was like a big dig and I'm still not sure what to make of what got brought to the surface. Whatever it was, I think it needed the light of day.
So, thanks to Jodie for winning the auction. I hope the story was everything she wanted it to be and more.
And thanks to everyone who read it. I'm exhausted. I'm thinking this is the kind of story I'll come back to in a few years and say, "Oh, so that's what that was about."

A/N: Part 8a contains sex featuring various kinks. Part 8b is the epilogue. Please be respectful in your comments - if you don't like the kinks featured, please keep your comments focused on Luke, Reid, and the story, keeping in mind that the story was won in an auction and that your personal preferences may not be the same as other people's. The scenes are not intended as gratuitous but to illustrate specific psychological and emotional epiphanies and developments in both characters.

7:10 am - I Love AO3!!

Originally posted by rhiannonhero at I Love AO3!!I'd write one of my own, but kassrachel said it so well! ::: Dear everyone involved with the Archive of Our Own, Thank you. Thank you to everyone who's ever written a line of code, fixed a bug, wrangled a tag, answered a support ticket. Thank you to the back-end coders and thank you to the front-end coders. Thank you to everyone who's ever brainstormed about what the archive might do, and thank you to everyone who's poured their hearts, souls, and spare time into trying to make the archive do all of those things and more. I use the AO3 every day. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for building it for me and for everyone who uses it -- and for everyone who doesn't use it yet but might use it someday. This archive isn't something to which fandom is entitled. It's a labor of love. You make the archive as your gift to fandom, and I appreciate that gift so, so much. Even though it isn't finished yet. Even though it isn't perfect yet. It's still awesome, and your hard work is tremendous and admirable, and I just want to say thanks. (Dear everyone else: if anything in this post resonates with you, feel free to signal-boost or repost.)
